In Week 07 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu taught me facial animation refinement and performance flow. She explained lip movement structure, eyebrow response, nose compression, and timing gaps between expressions. She demonstrated how anticipation creates readable emotion and how facial changes need controlled spacing instead of constant motion. She also showed how breakdown poses support smoother transitions between expressions without losing clarity in acting. I studied how small shifts in cheek volume and eye direction change emotional meaning inside a short animation.
I worked on improving my facial animation sequence based on previous facial pose exercises. I connected three expressions into a continuous performance using recorded facial reference. I focused on timing between blinks, mouth transitions, and eyebrow movement. I adjusted spacing so expressions do not change too quickly. I reduced over-squeezing in cheek movement and refined eye direction to maintain consistency across frames.
Step 1: Redeveloping the Animation
Step 2: Adding Sounds
Step 3: Receiving the Feedback
After submitting my animation, I received encouraging feedback from Marianna that:
“Your facial animation shows strong potential and good understanding of expression flow this time.”
I understood that facial animation depends on timing accuracy more than pose quantity. I improved my awareness of motion flow between expressions and learned to reduce unnecessary deformation. I will focus on smoother interpolation between facial poses and improve clarity of emotional staging in future facial animation tasks.
