In Week 06 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu introduced eye animation techniques and facial animation continuation. The session focused on how eye movement, blinking, and gaze direction influence emotional expression. I learned how subtle eye changes can significantly alter the perception of a character’s intent and emotional state.
Step 1: Recording the Reference
I applied this learning by connecting previous facial poses into a continuous facial animation sequence. I recorded reference expressions and translated them into animated transitions between poses. The focus was on maintaining natural movement flow while ensuring facial continuity across expressions.
Step 2: Developing the Animation
Step 3: Rendering the Animation
Step 4: Receiving the Feedback
After submitting my animation, I received encouraging feedback from Professor Ting that:
“Try making poses a little less symmetrical.”
“Avoid the flow in the animation and improve the timing between the poses”
I reflected on this by adjusting facial deformation to reduce stiffness and improve fluidity. I focused on allowing facial movements to feel less mechanical and more responsive.
