In Week 18 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu ntroduced Studio Library and explained how it is used to store, transfer, and reuse animation poses and motion data between rigs. The workshop focused on developing efficient production workflows and understanding how animation assets can be reused across different scenes and characters.
Ting provided a new Piranha Plant rig along with an environment containing plants, pathways, and benches. The task was to animate the Piranha Plant jumping three times before performing an attack. Ting asked me to use Studio Library to transfer animation created during the previous Animbot workshop and apply it to the new scene.
Step 1: Developing the Animation
I animated the three jumps, carefully working on the timing and spacing to make the movement feel energetic and believable. After completing the jumps, I used Studio Library to copy the attack animation I had created during Week 17 and transferred it onto the new rig.
Ting then introduced a Super Mario rig, which became the target of the attack sequence.
To make the scene more engaging, I animated Mario reacting just before the attack connected. He jumped away at the last moment, avoiding the strike and creating a stronger sense of action and anticipation. I also animated the camera throughout the sequence. As the Piranha Plant moved upward, the camera followed the action, then tracked Mario’s reaction, helping direct the audience’s attention through the scene.
Step 2: Receiving the feedback
After submitting my animation, I received positive feedback from Professor Ting that:
“You have chosen good camera angles for this sequence. The camera helps guide the audience through the action and makes the animation easier to follow.”
This workshop showed me how Studio Library can improve efficiency while maintaining creative control. It also highlighted how camera movement, character reactions, and reused animation assets can work together to create a stronger and more polished sequence.
Step 3: Rendering the Animation
