In Week 18 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu asked me to continue the Advanced animation Shot spline version of the animation using the new reference video recording.
Step 1: Recording the Reference
I re-recorded the reference video with more expressive performance and stronger physical movement. I then updated the animation blocking by improving pose quality, timing clarity, and emotional expression.
Step 2: Developing the Animation
I adjusted facial performance by including clearer eyebrow movement, eye direction shifts, and head tilts. I avoided symmetrical posing and focused on more natural asymmetrical body shapes. I also improved transitions between poses to avoid sudden stops in motion.
Step 3: Rendering the Animation
Step 4: Receiving the feedback
After submitting my animation, I received good feedback from Professor Ting that:
“The poses show clear improvement and the animation direction is becoming stronger.”
“Avoid stopping motion too long between poses. Keep movement continuous.”
“The hand and finger pointing needs clearer direction and precision.”
“The shoulders feel stiff and should relax more.”
“Add overlap between chest, stomach, arms, and elbows to improve realism.”
I updated my spline after this feedback and focused on continuous motion flow. I understood that animation performance relies heavily on overlap and secondary motion rather than isolated pose changes. I improved shoulder relaxation and added early overlap ideas between body parts. I also refined hand gestures to make actions clearer and more intentional.
