In Week 04 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu asked me to continue the Heavy Object and Change of Mind assignment blocking phase. The focus of the session was on physical storytelling and how weight and intention must be communicated clearly through animation. I worked with the Ninja Turtle rig to begin blocking the movement of a character interacting with a heavy object.
Step 1: Recording the Reference
Step 2: Developing the Animation
I created initial blocking poses and structured the movement to show lifting, carrying, and shifting intention. The goal was to clearly represent a change of mind through body mechanics and timing. I focused on staging and camera positioning while developing the rough animation pass.
Step 3: Receiving the Feedback
After submitting my animation, I received strict feedback from Professor Ting that:
“The animation is still rough and the camera angle does not match the reference properly.”
βThe rig is breaking in places and needs better control during deformation.β
“Improve clarity of motion and refining the staging before continuing further development.”
I understood from this feedback that the animation required stronger planning before execution. I revised my approach by focusing more on clarity of movement and stabilising the rig performance during blocking.
