In Week 20 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Ting Liu asked me to compile the animation works created throughout the unit and prepare a professional showreel containing the required projects and exercises completed during Terms 2 and 3. This final submission allowed me to reflect on my overall journey, observing how my technical skills and understanding of animation principles had developed across different assignments and workshops.
I created two different versions of my showreel.
A) FINAL SHOWREEL (ADVANCED)
The first version followed the exact submission guideline provided by Ting Liu and only included the selected assignments and animations that were specifically required for assessment. This version focused on presenting the key projects that represented my progress in areas such as body mechanics, facial performance, lip sync, animal locomotion, creature animation, and dialogue acting. The Submission includes:
a) 5 frames X 5 seconds Emotions (Previs)
b) Hunter to Prey (Previs)
c) Heavy Object and Change of Mind
d) Lip Sync Dialogue Shot
e) Creature Locomotion
f) Advanced Dialogue Shot
B) FINAL SHOWREEL (ADVANCED) + CLASS EXERCISE
The second version was a personal extended showreel where I included every animation that I had developed throughout the entire unit. Along with the major assignments, I also included workshop exercises such as the Piranha Plant animations using Animbot and Studio Library, overlapping exercises, breathing animations, and other experimental tasks. This allowed me to create a complete archive of my learning journey and showcase the wider range of techniques I explored during the course.
After completing both versions, I exported the final videos, uploaded them to YouTube, and submitted the required links. The process of reviewing all my previous works helped me understand the improvement I had achieved from the beginning of the unit until the final weeks.
This final submission marked the conclusion of Advanced Animation Techniques and allowed me to recognize my growth in areas such as acting, facial expressions, lip sync, cinematography, creature movement, body mechanics, and secondary animation. The collection of all these projects also provided a strong foundation for developing future animation work and my upcoming Final Major Project.
