In Week 14 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Nigel Mairs scheduled a one-to-one online review session for me to discuss feedback of my draft literature review and progress of the current direction of my research. During this session, I discussed the structure, writing style, and overall argument of my study around player generated avatars and digital ownership.
Step 1: Receiving the Literature Review Feedback
“The topic identifies an important industry issue and clearly establishes the area you are examining.”
“It would have been stronger to include a clearer introductory statement establishing the premise, objective, and importance of the study.”
“The review should maintain a more biased and critically extreme standpoint instead of remaining too neutral.”
“There is clarity in your writing and the academic tone communicates the points effectively.”
“Avoid placing your name heading on every page because it disrupts the flow of the paper.”
I understood that the beginning of the literature review needed a more direct explanation of the research purpose, who would benefit from the study, and why the topic is significant within digital media and gaming culture. I understood that my argument needed to become more analytical and opinion driven while still remaining academically supported through evidence and references. This feedback helped me identify structural improvements needed for the literature review while also strengthening the academic presentation of the work.
