In Week 12 of Advanced 3D Computer Animation, Professor Nigel Mairs asked me to continue developing my research proposal structure and focused on refining the research design strategies for my thesis topic. This session helped me understand how to shape a clearer research direction by organising the main research question, supporting sub-questions, and the overall structure of the thesis. I explored how each section of the proposal should contribute towards answering the research question in a logical and academically structured way.
Step 1: Exploring the Research tone
I focused on identifying the purpose and audience for my research. Since my topic examines player generated avatars and digital ownership, I considered how this research could be useful for people working within games, digital media, and platform regulation. I also explored how the research connects to both practical and theoretical discussions around intellectual property, platform control, and user creativity.
I studied how the thesis should be structured, including the introduction, methodology, literature review, investigation chapters, and conclusion. I also reviewed the importance of using academically recognised sources and applying Harvard referencing consistently throughout the study. Alongside this, I explored how practical work and academic research can connect together within the final major project.
Step 2: Organising the Academic evidence
This week helped me organise my research into a clearer academic direction. I started refining the structure of my proposal and considered how my case studies, platform analysis, and legal discussions could support the main argument of the thesis. The session also helped me understand the importance of maintaining clarity, structure, and strong academic evidence throughout the research process.
