In Week 01 of Design for Animation, Narrative Structures, and Film Language with Nigel Mairs, clearly outlined the three major components of the assessment:
a) The research blog
b) The critical report
c) The audio-visual research presentation.
Understanding these requirements early on helped me see how the subject is designed to connect research, theory, and communication skills.
I was introduced to the idea that this module is less about learning software and more about understanding animation as a language. The tutor explained how research topics could be developed around environmental, social, political, educational, or industrial contexts, using animation as the core medium of investigation. This immediately stood out to me, as it shifted my thinking away from production alone and towards critical analysis and academic inquiry.
What interested me most about this class was its focus on theory, film language, and structured research. Unlike other practical modules, this one emphasises questioning, analysing, and forming arguments.
